Resolving - Database Recovery and Restore Failed With an Unexpected Error - Exchange Server Error

When you perform operations like an online backup or defragmentation, the system reads each database page for writing or other processes. To do so, it first undergoes checksum test and check if it is correct. For any reason, if the page checksum mismatch with that has been calculated by database engine, it reports an error and the operation is halted. Such errors usually root from physical database corruption and compel you to restore the database from backup or apply some Exchange Repair measures to fix database corruption.

As an example of such problems, with Exchange Server 2007, you might exhibit the following symptoms:

1. The client computer cannot start Microsoft Outlook
2. Users fail to send/receive e-mails
3. Online backups and defragmentation fail with a -1018 checksum mismatch error
4. The application event log in Exchange Server reports an error as below:

Resolving - Database Recovery and Restore Failed With an Unexpected Error - Exchange Server Error

"Database recovery and restore failed with an unexpected error."

Cause

The above symptoms suggest that Exchange Server has failed to read database page due to checksum mismatch and the page is corrupt. However, the same issues can also occur due to firmware malfunction or problem in RAM. For the specific reason, you are suggested to view error code that is listed in the event description.

Solution

You need to apply these measures to solve the given problem:

1. If the error listed in event description is -515, the transaction log file(s) might be missing. Determine the missing logs and move them back to the log directory and/or restore the database from backup.
2. Check the system for hardware issues and solve them or migrate to a different hardware
3. Consider upgrading the BIOS and firmware
4. Perform Exchange Server Repair with eseutil /P command, followed by eseutil /D and isinteg -fix. Make sure you backup the database first as running this repair can cause important database pages to delete.

For safer MS Exchange Repair, consider using solutions like an Exchange Server recovery software. These commercial applications are built with advanced technology to run effective scan for a corrupted database and extract the valuable data out of it.

Exchange Repair Software is a professional utility that repairs corrupted Exchange Server databases. The Exchange Repair Software recovers all the mailboxes in individual *.pst files and also allows to select them as required. The tool supports Exchange Server 5.5, 2000, 2003, and 2007. The software can also recover deleted mailboxes.

'SMART - Status Bad - Backup and Replace' Hard Disk Error and Recovery

Physical hard disk failure refers to the condition in which data stored in the system becomes inaccessible due to hard disk malfunction. A hard disk is comprised of several mechanical and electronic components. But when these components get affected due to external factors like high intensity magnetic waves, sharp impact, temperature, water or fire, they get physically failed. Also, internal issues like wear and tear, low material quality and poor composition cause hard drive failure. In such cases, Hard Disk Recovery service can come to rescue and recover all lost data.

Hard drive failure is not instant in some cases. The modern hard drives come with an advanced technology known as S.M.A.R.T. (Self Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology). It is a proactive warning system that monitors the hard drive health on the basis of certain parameters and generates reports and warning messages on finding any fault. These parameters are sometimes denoted as hard disk reliability factors, such as temperature, excessive bad sectors etc. So, if a hard drive is anticipated to fail, SMART gives error message as:

"Pri master hard disk: S.M.A.R.T. Status Bad, backup and replace"

'SMART - Status Bad - Backup and Replace' Hard Disk Error and Recovery

Explanation

By master hard disk, error refers to the one, which is being primarily used by computer system to store data. The above warning suggests that users are required to immediately backup all data and replace the failing hard drive with a new one. Hard drives may go bad due to mechanical component failure, electronic faults or firmware corruption.

But in most of the cases related to physical failure, users may need to opt for Data Recovery service to recover their lost files. It can occur due to two basic reasons:

o Backup failure
o Ignoring the S.M.A.R.T error message

Hard Disk Recovery Service

It is a specialized component level service provided by recovery experts to recover data from physically failed hard drives. The processes involved in Hard Disk Recovery start with detailed analysis of the failed hard drive and chalk out suitable recovery procedures accordingly. A physically failed hard drive gets dismantled in sterile lab environments of Clean Rooms and technical procedures like repairing or replacing disk internals, disk cloning, shifting the platters etc. are applied. Data Recovery service experts can recover data in all cases of failures including those which S.M.A.R.T. can't detect.

Stellar Information Systems Limited offers industry's leading Hard Disk Recovery service through Class-100 Clean Rooms. We have been providing recovery service from more than 16 years. The advanced recovery service is provided for almost all makes and models of hard drives as SCSI, SATA, EIDE and IDE including server hard drives and SSDs (Solid State Drives).

Basic Accounting Principles - What Are They?

There are four basic accounting principles that, along with four basic accounting assumptions and four basic accounting constraints, make up the generally accepted accounting principles, or GAAP, in the U.S. The GAAP are the accounting rules under which businesses record and report their financial earnings and losses for the accounting period. These rules are issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, usually in conjunction with other government entities. Accountants are not necessarily required to follow the rules, but the rules should be followed as closely as possible as they set standards that should be met to ensure appropriate accounting activity, understandability and comparability of the accounting data for different businesses.  Below is a list of the four basic accounting principles and a brief explanation of each one.

1. The Cost Principle

Businesses are required to record and report assets based on the actual cost incurred to acquire them rather then the free-market value of the acquired assets themselves. The idea behind this principle is that this method of recording and reporting is reliable and lessens the opportunity for factors such as biased market values to interfere with the accounting.  However, this method may be viewed as irrelevant as it relates to the actual value of assets.

Basic Accounting Principles - What Are They?

2. The Accrual Principle

Businesses are required to record and report revenue at the time it is earned and realized by the business, not when the cash for the revenue is received by the business.  This method is known as accrual basis accounting. The purpose of this principle is to actually show what work has been completed and not what is to be done in the future.

3. The Matching Principle

This principle allows for real time analysis of the expenses and revenues. Using this principle will show just how well the business has done financially and how effective it was.  Somewhat like the Accrual Principle, expenses in this case can only be recorded and reported when revenue is to which such expenses are related was earned.

4. The Disclosure Principle

The accounting records of a business must be disclosed so that judgment about the financial status of a business can be easily made.  However, the disclosure of accounting and financial information should not cause the business to accrue unreasonable expenses or cause erroneous opinions.

One Method of Data Recovery from a Dead Hard Drive

Here is the situation. A laptop comes to us with a dead hard drive. Unfortunately, the user needs some files off the dead drive. After much research on the internet and a couple of data recovery quotes we decide to try and recover the information ourselves.

Luckily for us the drive won't spin up at all. I say luckily because the usual problem is that the circuit board on the bottom of the drive went bad. That doesn't mean that something else isn't the problem, but replacing the circuit board is the simplest thing to try.

The first thing needed is another hard drive. That may sound easy but it isn't. You need an identical hard drive, and by identical I mean the same model number, part number, firmware, everything. In our case we had a Hitachi Travelstar hard drive that had three numbers to match. The important numbers were the model number, part number, and MLC number. I believe the MLC number has something to do with the firmware revision but don't quote me on that. After speaking with Hitachi I was referred to a company called CueTech. They specialize in finding "hard to find" or obsolete computer parts. The wanted to charge between 0 and 0 for the drive, which I thought was reasonable for the work required to find one. Instead of using them I decided to search on my own and after two days, still had not found another drive for sale that met my needs. We then started looking in house for similar laptops and found one that had an identical drive. Now we were in business.

One Method of Data Recovery from a Dead Hard Drive

Now that we had our drive, we needed to protect ourselves because the user wanted their machine back in working order. So before we started any kind of surgery we made a ghost image of their hard drive. After waiting the 20 minutes or so for the backup to finish we began the surgery. First we removed the hard drive from the working system and laid it on a static pad with the circuit board up. We then used a T-5 Torx drive to remove the screws securing the circuit board to the hard drive. Your drive may need a different size or style of screwdriver. We then repeated the process on the bad drive. We put the circuit board from the good drive onto the dead hard drive and placed it back in the laptop. It booted! As soon as we new it worked we then setup the system to make a quick drive image. After waiting another 20 minutes we had a drive image of the bad hard drive and our data was recovered.

To finish the process we had to put the circuit board back on the original good hard drive and verify that it was working correctly. Once that was completed and the laptop returned to its owner, we installed a brand new hard drive in the system that had the original issue. The last step was to restore the drive image to the new hard drive, verify that it worked, and give the laptop back to the owner.

The Simplest Way to Unhide a Hidden Partition

After my first article on the hidden partition I realized that the solution that I brought was rather difficult for the newbies, I thus sought and tried out various solutions and programs until I find this terrible little software, I named PARTEDIT32.

This small freeware software will allow you to make visible your partition in some clicks of mouse and on the fly under Windows XP.

Just unzip and launch Partedit32 the user interface opens, simple but effective if you have more than one hard disk, choose the hard disk where your hidden partition is in the Hard Disk menu, then look in your partitions table at the column TYPE, Partedit32 has a list of the various types of partition, you can reach it by clicking the button SET TYPE.

The Simplest Way to Unhide a Hidden Partition

In this example with a Acer laptop the name of the partition is pqservice and its type is 12, changes it by type 07, and save.

Now you just have to restart your computer, enter into "my computer" you have done it, now you can see the hidden partition pqservice. If you do not see the hidden partition repeat the operation but disable before the D2D recovery software into the bios menu. To open the bios hit the F2 key during the boot (note this is for Phoenix Bios check your user manual for other bios). Go to the main menu set the D2D recovery to disable, save the change restart and you have done it.

The PARTEDIT32 software is available for download at laptop support after a free registration.

After that you just have to reverse the operation to hide the pqservice partition. Note that if you want to secure documents or software you can create a partition, save your goods into and hide this partition by using partedit32.

Oil and Gas Data Management

Effective oil and gas data management facilitates desktop access to numerous up-to-date databases, including those related to surface and subsurface land, wells, pressure, production, pipelines, core, reserves, seismic and logs. The capturing, storing and accessing of valuable data regarding oil and gas is made easy by oil and gas data management tools. In the competitive and challenging field of oil and gas market, rigorous data management and analysis tools are very essential.

Oil and gas data management tools are designed for use by geologists, engineers, geophysicists, technologists, land personnel, managers, accounting staff, financial investors and other oil and gas professionals. One of the key requirements for oil and gas data management is to have a well defined management strategy. The management techniques involve storing data, information and knowledge such as prospect evaluations, reservoir and earth studies etc. The required data can at any time be accessed by a user by typing in a key word or phrase. Storing data and accessing it has become much easier, compared to the earlier printed format.

Oil and gas companies employ modern sophisticated tools to optimize data management ? project consulting is one of the tools. These companies seek the help of outsourced firms for project management and also in optimizing organizational effectiveness, drilling, reservoir productivity, geophysical and geological technologies, and information technology. Prominent companies rely heavily on service companies and other vendors to develop and maintain advanced technologies for easy managing of data.

Oil and Gas Data Management

Service companies in this regard gives a variety of products and services that make management easy and consolidate storage resources on the network for a better, more cost-effective data management. These service providers give server, storage, tape, and required software and support services. The software has maximum scalability, performance, and throughput for data-intensive applications. Since you now use fewer hardware and software, lesser number of administrators is needed. This reduces the costs involved, at the same time increasing efficiency.
